Looking back over the years in Emanuel County 5 Years Ago Swainsboro city council approved additional funds from the recently collected hotel/motel tax to three local organizations. Council approved an additional $1,000 to Swainsboro Kiwanis for its Pine Tree Festival activities; $1,000 to the Jaycees for its Fourth of July fireworks display; and $250 to the Shriners Club for its golf tournament. 10 Years Ago Following the approval of a Community Development Block Grant of $500,000 for the Lincoln Park Improvement Project, Swainsboro City council voted to proceed with the project and to retain services of Thomas & Hutton engineering firm. Existing problems in Lincoln Park were caused by drainage and flooding. The firm of Thomas & Hutton said they would construct an enclosed piping system to alleviate the drainage problems with an estimated cost of $700,000. Construction was estimated to be 1 - 2 years. 25 Years Ago Mrs. Evelyn G. Mc- Cain accepted a plaque and congratulations from Denny Key. She was the winner of the local Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) program and received the chance to compete for state GOAL honors. 50 Years Ago Folks in Emanuel and surrounding counties attended a street dance in Wrightsville climaxing the week-long Centennial Celebration of Johnson County. Featured at the dance was the music of Ned Stribling, who was known by TV viewers and regular dancers as "Uncle Ned." Four downtown streets were roped off for the dance, which was the largest event in the entire event.
