Summer tech camps offered at Swainsboro Technical College

Swainsboro Technical College will host Tech Camps on campus the first two weeks of June for rising six graders to eighth graders. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of camps.

The first week will highlight a CSI Camp which will include hands on activities in fingerprinting, investigation, crime scene sketches, using police and fire equipment and a tour of the Emanuel County Jail. The camp will be conducted by Travis Akridge and Grady Toney, Criminal Justice Instructors at Swainsboro Technical College. The CSI Camp will begin at 8:30 am and end at 12:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, June 2 - 5. The fee for the camp is $40.00 and you must pre-register. The fee includes lunch, CSI t-shirt, and cap.

During the first week of June another Tech Camp choice is Nail Art which will include learning the latest techniques and designs to create your own summer nails. Change the look of your nails every time you change flip flops! Free hand nail are that you can do with polish or paint. You do not have to be an artist to learn the latest techniques in nail art. Be the envy of your friends after spending a few days doing the new and speedy techniques. You will actually be able to create your own designs after learning a few basic brush strokes. This camp will begin at 8:30 and end at 12:30, Monday through Friday, June 2 -5. The fee for the camp is $40.00 and you must pre-register. The fee includes lunch and brush and polish supplies.

The Nail Art Tech Camp will be repeated the second week of June starting Monday, June 9 and ending Thursday, June 12; 8:30 to 12:30 and registration is $40.00. You must pre-register and the fee includes lunch and supplies.

Forestry and Wildlife Sizzling Summer Camp will begin on June 9 with a trip into the world of the White-tailed deer, learning to age deer and score antlers. Participants will progress into the woods to begin identifying trees and learning the importance of trees to animals and people. Ethical and safe hunting practices will be explored through the use of laser shot technology. Each participant will be shooting the laser rifle to emphasize "shoot-don't shoot" scenes coupled with proper shot placement. Following forest and wildlife excursions, participants will utilize their imagination and creativity skills to design and color their dream home using the latest computer aided design software.

Participants will be awarded: Membership to Swainsboro Technical College's Forestry and Wildlife Club; Forestry and Wildlife Club T-shirt; Tree Identification book; Firearm safety lock from Project Child Safe; Boone and Crockett score sheets; Ageing Whitetailed deer tooth wear chart; Computer Aided Design Software.

Forestry and Wildlife Sizzling Summer Camp blasts off on June 9 at 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. daily. Lunch provided.

Certified Baby Sitting Camp will be held on campus June 2-5, from 8:30 to 12:30 Mon - Thursday. The camp instructors will teach you how to plan fun activities for children of different age groups. Become a Certified Baby Sitter with hands on activities, CPR, first aid and how to handle emergencies. Learn how to make extra spending money by marketing yourself, a certified babysitter. You must pre-register and the fee is $40.00 which includes lunch, t-shirts, and other supplies related to the camp.

"Geek Week" Tech Camp will be held June 9 - 12, Mon - Thursday, 8:30 to 12:30 on Swainsboro Tech campus. Students will be involved in many hands on activities with the computer, such as gaming where the students will be able to play games in a networked environment. Also, "Geek Week" will feature how to burn CDs and design labels for them. The camp will also feature the art of texting where you will learn all of the tricks of texting and instant messaging. The students will also learn digital photography and Photoshop. The fee includes lunch, t-shirts, digital camera, CDs and other supplies related to the camp.
