UDC historical plaque dedication

Emanuel Rangers Chapter No. 2318 United Daughters of the Confederacy dedicated a historical plaque Saturday, April 19 at 10:45 a.m. at Bark Camp Church to honor the men

from Bark Camp Church who served in the War Between the States.

Bark Camp Church is located 5 miles north of Midville off Hwy. 56 in Burke County near Bark Camp Creek. The church was constituted in 1788 before George Washington was elected president. The present building was built in 1848 and was restored in 2002-03. This historical church has three scheduled meetings per year; Easter Sunrise Service, Annual meeting and Christmas Service.

The dedication began with Mrs. Ann Grady giving the welcome. Mrs. Judy Womack, UDC Registrar gave the Service to the Confederacy and read the names of the soldiers buried in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mary Shepherd, Chaplain gave the invocation. UDC President, Mrs. Elaine Thomas, gave the dedication of the plaque and Mrs. Mary Ann Smith, Recorder of Military Service Awards unveiled the plaque and read the inscription. The attendees joined hands and Mrs. Judy Womack led in Blest Be the Ties That Bind and Mrs. Mary Shepherd gave the benediction.
