Commissioners hold monthly meeting

The Emanuel County Commissioners held their monthly meeting Monday, April 21, 2008 at 7 p.m.

It was unanimously moved to accept Rajnikant V. Patel's application for a license to sell beer and wine retail and consumption on the premises located at 772-A and 774 Hwy 86 East, Lyons, Ga.

They also opened bids submitted for the purchase of two tractors and two mowers. Blanchard Equipment submitted a bid on a John Deere 6503 tractor for $37,480. East State Equipment submitted a bid on a 5460 tractor for $46,887 and a 15 ft. Super Predator mower for $11,636, making the cost $58,246 per unit. Emanuel Tractor Sales submitted a bid on an M9540 tractor for $34,490 and a 3715 Bushhog mower for $11,524, making the cost $46,014 per unit. A unanimous motion was passed for a committee to review bid for accuracy to required specifications and purchase from the lowest bid, Emanuel Tractor Sales.

The Georgia Center for Municipal Solutions presented an application process for the installation of cell towers in Emanuel County. Daniel Dye, the representative for GCMS, spoke of the advantages of working with cell companies through his organization rather than directly, citing higher guaranteed safety standards and regulations that would keep Emanuel County in control of the towers within its borders. He proposed that Emanuel County adopt a 90 day interim resolution to work with GCMS to form a more permanent resolution to regulate relations with cell tower companies. The proposal will be reviewed and decided upon at the next meeting of the County Commissioners.
