SPD makes arrest

LAY
The Swainsboro Police Department announces the arrest of Ezra Tyrone Lay of a Lucky St. address. Lay was arrested on April 10 after a 1 1/2-2 hour foot chase. He was arrested in a wooded area near the Emanuel Arts Center (Green St.). The charges against him were felony Theft By Taking of a motor vehicle, a 1993 Dodge Caravan from a Brown St. address. Lay, who has an extensive criminal record and is on probation, is still detained in the Emanuel County Jail with criminal warrants and probation violation warrants pending.

"Lt. Richard Peacock is to be commended for his handling of the case," says Chief Shuman.

Chief Shuman also asks that citizens help him identify former Police Chiefs of Swainsboro. He is attempting to arrange a historical display in the new police department that will include police chiefs in Swainsboro history. A partial list of former Chiefs includes R.J. Williams, R.A. Flanders, E.R. Lester, John A. Bell, William Canady, R.A. Curl, T.E. Brown, Frank Fields, Walter Boatright, Walter M. Lamb, Curtis Coleman, Ernest Beasley, and Clyde Barnes. He asks that, if you have family members who would be helpful, old photos, or know someone that does, that you contact him. He needs biographical data, a short history, and the time that they were Chief. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
