DEA 3-0 in region; team work the big Key

Last week the Eagles traveled to Bellville to take on the Pinewood Patriots; the Eagles came up short, loosing 7 - 1. "This game was not a team effort by anymeans. This was our first game back off Spring Break and I did not have them ready and in the mind set they needed to be in," replied Coach Motes. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead with a walk off homerun by Joseph Sparks. The Eagles could not get much going after that, only producing six more hits. Joseph Powell lead the way going 2 for 2, with Derek Lindsey and Micheal Holloway both batting 500 for the game.

The next day the Eagles took on region foe Thomas Jefferson at home. "We were much more prepared for this game; as coaches we stressed the importance of teamwork and the kids listened to us. It showed in the way we played; everybody was on the same page with the same goal in mind," said Coach Motes. Jordan Wiley is charged with the win, only giving up three hits and two walks. The team gave a great effort, only committing two errors. Joseph Sparks again gave the lead to the Eagles in the first inning with a homerun. Jordan Wiley followed in the bottom of the third with a three run shot. Derek Lindsey lead the way going three for four on the day. The Eagles run ruled the Jaguars in the sixth inning, beating them 11 - 1. Play ended with an exceptional play, catching the Jags sleeping and taking homeplate to go ahead by ten.

The Eagles then traveled down to Douglas, Georgia,

to take on Citizens Christian Academy on Friday. The mighty Eagles had a great ride home as they again came away with another victory beating the Patriots 13 - 6, and taking the lead in the region. Brandon Blount came away with the win, striking out two and walking three. The team again only had two errors on the day. Derek Lindsey hit another two run shot, Blount went three for four, and Micheal Holloway again went two for two.

"I'm really proud of my men. After playing so terribly in the Pinewood game, they turned it around and played like a team. We really talked to them about teamwork and doing what they had to do for the team. It really showed in the TJ and CCA games; we got the bat on the ball and made some plays when we needed to. Hudson Johnson put up two doubles, and Darin Coursey and Chase Brannen each had one double in the CCA game. John Mark Sweat had four stolen bases this week. Our motto is "get all you can get" and the kids are really starting to play like that. Our batting average went from .250 in the Pinewood game to .500 against TJ and .400 against CCA," said Coach Motes. The Eagles will host Glennville Christian Academy on Tuesday at 4:00.

The JV Eagles played at CCA on Friday also and came up short, losing 5 - 4. Seth Durden is charged with the loss. Durden struck out two and walked three. Durden also went three for four, with a walk on the offensive side. Scott Irvin helped the cause going one for one. Isaac Walden came through with some hard hits also. The JV Eagles will host First Presbyterian on Monday the 14th at 4:00.
