Mary Louise Newkirk, 87

AUGUSTA--The funeral service for Mary Louise Newkirk, 87, was conducted on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Poteet Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Sanders and Rev. Judy Boulineau presiding. Committal services followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. She died Thursday, March 27, 2008.

She was a member of the Crestview Seniors Sunday School Class and the Eastern Star. Prior to her retirement, she was an inspector for King Mill. Mrs. Newkirk was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Mr. Franklin Newkirk; sons, Cecil Parker of Las Vegas, NV, Donald Parker of Augusta, Ervin Parker, of Hephzibah, and Ray Parker of Darien; children, Dorothey Cunningham of North Augusta, Diana Morris of Hephzibah, Derek Newkirk of Martinez; twenty-two grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; brothers, Tommy Howard and Edward Howard; sisters, Hattie Lee Hudson, Myrtice Tisdale, Ruby Prince, Martha Ann Martin, and Ann Bush. She was preceded in death by her son George E. Parker and step-son, Donald Newkirk.

Her grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers. The deacons at Crestview served as honorary pallbearers.

The Poteet Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, 706-798- 8886 had charge of the funeral arrangements.
