Alisa Pittman Cleek has come a long way from working at the local Swainsboro Piggly Wiggly, but the same dedication and determination she showed growing up in this small town has paid off in a big way. The 5th generation attorney and honor graduate of Swainsboro High School recently released her first statement as President of the Society for Human Resorurce Management-Atlanta in the Spring edition of The Human Resource, SHRM-Atlanta's official magazine. This is another award in the growing list of Cleek's accomplishments, from graduating magna cum laude from the University of Georgia and earning a law degree from William and Mary to being on the Board of Directors for the Terry College of Business at UGA to even being named one of the "50 Most Beautiful Atlantans" with her twin sister, Ashley Pittman Scott (a title based not only on looks but achievements), this small-town girl is making waves in the world. In her President's Message, she outlines the plans for the Society for Human Resource Management Atlanta in the coming year. These plans include organizing around the central theme of Human Resource Champions, an idea taken from Dave Ulrich's book of the same name published ten years ago, and making sure members of the Society have the best mentoring and educational opportunities. She outlines the year by talking about the various seminars and assemblies that will take place throughout the year to enhance the working experiences of the Society's members. A mentoring program will be put into place, as well as roundtables, to help newer members connect with more experienced HR professionals to share ideas to help expand their catalog of resources. Despite her prestigious position, Cleek still holds to her hometown ideals. The following is an excerpt from The Human Resource that talks about her life and how she has made it to where she is today. "Alisa Pittman Cleek grew up in Swainsboro. If you've ever driven south on Interstate 16 on the way to the Georgia beaches--and blinked--you might have missed it. Swainsboro may be a small town, but it provided some great lessons that stay with her today. She learned the benefits of hard work and the value of leadership and community involvement in Swainsboro. Those are lessons that she will bring to SHRM-Atlanta over the next year. It is no surprise Cleek followed in her father's footsteps by becoming a CPA. Her father obviously had a tremendous impact on her and her sisters as all three sisters are CPAs. Cleek, however, decided to continue her education and also follow in her grandfather's footsteps by becoming an attorney. She found her niche in employment law at Elarbee, Thompson, Sapp & Wilson, which offered her the ability to build relationships with clients and work with them as a team to solve problems. She has spent her entire career with Elarbee Thompson, where she is currently a partner. Cleek was recently chosen by her peers as one of the top 50 female attorneys in Georgia for two consecutive years. Cleek also spends her time as a member of the of the Board of Directors for the University of Georgia Terry College of Business and as chair of the Board of Directors of the Women in the Profession Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. She is also a member and volunteer at the Buckhead Church. In Cleek's spare time, you will find her spending time with her husband of only one year." - The Human Resource, Spring 2008
