County suggests lowering speed limit at Lambs Bridge
By JACQUIE BRASHER

At its meeting Monday, Emanuel County Commissioners discussed Swainsboro City Council's request to annex (road only) a portion of Lambs Bridge Road to Tiger Trail in order to control traffic in that area. The new entrance to East Georgia College has resulted in several complaints of speeding vehicles on that stretch of road and that more police supervision is needed. However, Commissioner James Canady expressed concerns about Department of Transportation projects in that area and that allowing that portion to be annexed in the city may hinder the county's ability to receive future funding for maintenance.

Canady proposed a 45 mph speed limit sign beyond the EGC college sign and also to suggest to the city of Swainsboro that the entire Tiger Trail needs to be annexed into the city. (Portions of Tiger Trail are currently both in the city and county.) County Attorney Franklin Edenfield spoke of how Tiger Trail should be annexed all the way around, beginning at Meadowlake Parkway. Commissioners discussed law enforcement in that area as well, and which law officer would have authority in different parts of Tiger Trail.

After some discussion, a motion was made and approved to draft a letter to the city of Swainsboro to suggest lowering the speed limit at the EGC entrance; to request that Georgia State Patrol monitor the area; and to re-examine this issue as needed.

In other business:

Commissioners announced a public hearing on March 17 to hear comments about a proposed ordinance providing regulations governing the use of public roads by timber companies and the establishment of such procedures for the conduct of timber operations in order to assure public safety and the protection of county roadways and the environment.

Commissioners advertised a vacancy on the MHDDAD Planning Board.

Commissioners adopted a resolution to transfer assets in the Nationwide Retirement Solutions Inc. 401-A to ACCG 401-A Defined Contribution Plan.
