Jasmine Phillips scores season high

Freshman Jasmine Phillips scored a season high 20 points to lead David Emanuel Academy to a 56-35 win over Twiggs Academy last Friday night in Jeffersonville. With the win DEA ended region play with a 7-3 record and tied for second place with Thomas Jefferson Academy in the GISA 2-A standings.

Jessica Wimberly, another freshman starter, added 15 points to the Lady Eagles victory. Laura Cardell with eight, Brittany Mc- Nure with seven, and Nikki Dye, Amy Wells and Blythe Morgan with two each completed the scoring for DEA who trailed 18-17 at halftime. Lindsay Ellington with 14 points led Twiggs who fell to 3-14 and 1-8 region play with the loss.

Phillips was the leading scorer in Tuesdays win at home over Citizens Christian Academy. Jasmine tossed in 16 points to lead the Lady Eagles to 48-32 win and a season sweep over the defending region champions. Laura Cardell netted 13 points to join Phillips in double figures while Amy Wells hit three shots from behind the arch to finish with nine. Jessica Wimberly with five, Nikki Dye with three and Brittany McNure with two also scored in the win. Kira Liles with 16 and Caroline Fender with 12 led CCA.

The regular season came to an end on Saturday with a tough one point loss to Curtis Baptist by the final score of 39-38. Jasmine Phillips led the DEA scoring with 15 points followed by Jessica Wimberly with nine, Brittany Mc- Nure and Laura Cardell with five each, Amy Wells with three and Nikki Dye with one. Ritzy Griffin led Curtis Baptist with 10 points. With the loss DEA ends regular season play with a 14-9 record while Curtis Baptist improved to 9-19.

Region tournament play began on Monday, Feb. 11 for the DEA Lady Eagles. Should they advance with a win they would play Thomas Jefferson Academy in the region semifinals at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14 and earn a trip to the state tournament. DEA would also play in either the consolation game at 4 p.m. or the championship at 7 p.m. on Friday depending on the outcome of Thursday's game. This year's region tournament will be played at East Georgia College in Swainsboro.
