DEA defeats Twiggs, Curtis Baptist The David Emanuel Academy boys basketball team ended the 2007-08 regular season with two wins as they defeated Twiggs Academy 48-31 last Friday in Jeffersonville and then downed Curtis Baptist School 56-43 in the home finale on Saturday afternoon. Joseph Sparks, senior playing in his last home game, led the win on Saturday with 29 points. Gavin Harper added 14 points to join Sparks in double figures. Brandon Blount with six, Hudson Johnson with four and Ryan Sparks with three also scored as DEA improved to 8-17. Brandon Blount, John Mark Sweat and Marshall Blount are seniors that also played their final game as Eagles in the DEA gymnasium. Junior Gavin Harper netted 20 points in the Eagles win at Twiggs on Friday night. Joseph Sparks chipped in with 17 while Brandon Blount and John Mark Sweat each tallied three, Marshall Blount and Miles Patterson both scored two and Ryan Sparks added one as DEA finished region play with a 4-10 record. C J Stamps led the Trojans with 16 points. The basketball week did not begin well for the Eagles as they lost 84-69 at home to Citizens Christian. Joseph Sparks led all scorers with 27 points with Gavin Harper tossing in 16 and Brandon Blount netting 13 for DEA. Ryan Sparks scored six, Hudson Johnson contributed four and John Mark Sweat added three to round out the DEA scoring. Kameron Cole led the Patriots with 26 points with Jordan Johnson tossing in 22 and Blake Hendley finishing with 20. DEA finished the season in the number six position and played number three Robert Toombs in the region tournament at East Georgia College in Swainsboro on Tuesday afternoon. If the Eagles advanced they would play on Thursday and Friday in the tournament where a loss in the game with RTCAwould end the season.
