Tigers prepare for region tournament
BY MICHAEL HENRY

With the region tournament finally here, competition is tougher than ever for the Tigers. Despite the increased competition, they still maintain their spirits and play just as hard as they ever have. It's perfectly clear that they want to win and will go for it with everything they have.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Tigers swept away Southeast Bulloch with a double win. In the girls' game the Lady Tigers came out on top with a final score of 29-22. Jasmine Lloyd scored 12 points for the Tigers that night to make her the high scorer for Swainsboro. The boys narrowly defeated their opponents as well that night. Tony Mitchell led the team once again with 19 points through the hoops. Cecil Bent and Malcom Eady were both on their toes and scored 12 points a piece. This left the final score at 69-66.

On Friday, Feb. 8, the Tigers traveled to Jefferson County. Jayde Nail played valiantly in the girls' game plunging 12 points into the hoops for Swainsboro. The Lady Tigers just couldn't do enough, and suffered a 52- 35 loss at the hands of Jefferson County. The boys brought all their game to Jefferson County, and managed to seize a 73-59 win. Mitchell wooed the crowd with an amazing 28 points. Eady and Bent were right there supporting the team as well with 14 and 12 points respectively.

Saturday, Feb. 9, the Tigers played on Wilkinson County courts. The girls scraped a 45-38 win from their opponents with the help of Clarise Devouil. Devouil put in 11 points for the scoreboard making her the high scorer for the Lady Tigers. Brianna Coney, Lloyd, and Nail all dropped in 8 points as well. The boys' game unfortunately didn't go quite so well. The boys were defeated 80-41 by powerhouse Wilkinson County. Byron Foots and Mitchell managed to win a combined score of 23 points for Swainsboro, but it just wasn't enough to carry them to a victory.

The Tigers will be competing in the first games of the region tournament on Feb. 12 and 13. The girls will face-off with Jefferson County once again, while the boys will challenge Southeast Bulloch. The winners of these games will continue to compete in the region tournament until the championship has been decided. The next games will be held this Friday and Saturday. Maybe a region championship is ahead! Support your Tigers!
