Tigers fight hard in overtime When the Tigers arrived in Augusta on January 29, Josey had still not forgotten the last time their paths had brought them together. Similarly, they still held vivid recollections of the 35 points that Alabama-bound Tony Mitchell put on the board against them. In their previous meeting on January 11, the Tigers put down Josey 72-57. Most unfortunately, however, things didn't go quite as well for Swainsboro this time around. It was a back and forth game from the beginning with the Tigers narrowly leading, 33-32, at the close of the half. Leading the Tigers on the scoreboard was Michael Tann with 18 points through the hoops. He was closely followed by Cecil Bent with 15 points and Mitchell with 13 points. The Tigers simply were not protecting the ball well enough, however, and found themselves in overtime. After the long fight to the finish, the Tigers were narrowly defeated 67-62. This leaves the Tiger's record in Region 3-AA at 7-3. The Lady Tigers also suffered a loss in a similarly difficult game against Josey that night. Despite their best efforts they were put down 58-37. Leading for the girls was Jayde Nail with a smooth 17 points through the hoops. Clara Worthen was right behind her, dropping 13 points into the basket herself. Even though the Lady Tigers were defeated, it's safe to say that they will continue to play their best. This defeat leaves their record in Region 3-AA at 6-4. It is often said that there is no such thing as failure. When you do not accomplish what you originally desired, you still learn something from what occurred. The Tigers definitely realize this and will learn from their defeat. It can only get better.
