Charles Thomas Elliott Sr., 93 SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Charles Thomas Elliott Sr., 93, was held Monday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. in The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd of Swainsboro with the Rev. Sonia Sullivan Clifton and Rev. Ron Southerland officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Thursday. Jan. 31, 2008 at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro after an extended illness. Mr. Elliott was a native of Rockdale County, but lived most of his life in Emanuel County. He was owner operator of Elliott's Department Store and referred to himself as a gentleman farmer. Mr. Elliott was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, a veteran of WWII and a 1935 graduate of The Citadel. He was also a Charter member of both the Rotary Club and the Swainsboro Country Club. Mr. Elliott was preceeded in death by his parents Shellie Septimus and Georgia Smith Elliott and a wife Billie Rountree Elliott. Survivors include his wife Daphne Taylor Elliott; a daughter, Missy Elder of Cannoochee; a son, Charles T. Elliott Jr. of Swainsboro; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece, four nephews, two great nephews, two great-great nephews, two great-great nieces. Pallbearers were Charles T. Elliott III, David F. Glunt, Daniel Y. Glunt, Huey Register, Ben Ouzts, Thomas Smith, Jay Smith, and Wilder Smith. Honorary escorts were Jim Hamrick, George Atkins, Larry Hooks, Jimmy Morgan, Bonnie Ogburn, Ernest Mitchell, Kenny Griffin, Richard McNeely, Jim Curry, Pete Rountree, Charles Schwabe, Nick Herrington, William Donaldson, Mitchell Fagler, Benion Turner, Lacy B. Frye III and John Martin. Memorial may by made to The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Swainsboro or the First United Methodist Church of Swainsboro.
