Good Shepherd welcomes Rev. Ron Southerland
The Rev. Southerland graduated from the University of Georgia in 1965 with a major in Forestry and Wildlife Management. He worked in that field for a while before moving to Tennessee where he worked in a copper mine at Copper Hill. He then answered his call to the ministry and attended seminary at the University of the South in Sewanee. He served one year as a deacon at First Timothy in Signal Mountain, then went on to serve as a priest for five years in Memphis, followed by five years in Winchester. He moved back to Georgia and served the Diocese of Georgia for seven years as a supply priest before beginning his time at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in 1989. Church members hosted a reception for the Rev. Southerland following church services Jan. 6. Good Shepherd is located at 621 West Main Street in Swainsboro.
