Tigers soar over Eagles and Patriots
By JIM WILLIS

After anticipating a rematch of last year's Region 2-AA Championship game between the T.W. Josey Eagles and the Swainsboro Tigers the game was not much of a game. "We wanted to send a message throughout the region that we are back," Head Coach Leroy Jordan commented after beating Josey by doubledigits. Swainsboro improved their wining streak to 4 games and their record to 6-6 and 4-1 in Region 2-AA.

Tony Mitchell cashed in an impressive 35 points and dominated from the perimeter. Mitchell exposed the Eagles defense by shooting the outside shot. Josey's man-to-man defense faltered against Tony Mitchell.

Cecil Bent scored 18 points and controlled the paint for the Tigers. Bent was able to get the Eagles into foul trouble. The game was very physical. Josey had two technical fouls and Swainsboro had one in the contest. Swainsboro received their revenge and sent a shock-wave through Region 2-AA.

"Let's not stop at Josey, that win is in the past," Coach Jordan told his team before Saturday's game against Westside, "We need to remain focused." Swainsboro jumped out to a tremendous lead and never looked back.

Mitchell scored 25 points. Bent was the second leading scorer with 15 points.

Friday night the Tigers will host rival Jefferson County at 8:45 p.m. On Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Augusta to rematch the Lucy Laney Wildcats. Laney handed the Tigers their first region lost in early December 50-48. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:45.
