Johnson, Tankersley honored at Farm/City banquet
Abb Dan Johnson and his family were given the "Farm Family of the Year" award. Dan started his own small farm in 1977 after graduating from ECI and now operates in Emanuel and Bulloch Counties, growing corn, cotton, peanuts, soybeans, hay, pecans and custom work harvesting crops and baling hay. He also raises livestock which includes cows and hogs and in 2005 added English Bulldogs. He was chosen Emanuel County's Soil Conservationist of the Year in 2000 and is a member of Emanuel County Young Farmers Chapter. His wife, Terri and children Amber, Ansley, and Abb III share many of the farming responsibilities. Dan and his family are members of El Bethel Baptist Church where he serves on several committees. Carl Tankersley was honored as "City Person of the Year." Carl is wellknown in the area, having served as County Extension agent for 13 years before his retirement. He was awarded the D.W. Brooks award, the highest award given to an Extension Agent. Carl is president of Emanuel County Agri-Business Council and a member of Emanuel County Young Farmer Chapter. He has served as president of Twin City Lions Club, Swainsboro Rotary Club, and Swainsboro Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce. Carl has a small cattle operation on his farm specializing in purebreds. Carl has two children, Sykora Cobb, a graduation coach at St. Mary's; and Agan, a student at UGA. Presenting the award to Dan Johnson was Marvin Kersey, and Bill Rogers, Jr. presented Carl Tankersley his award.
