A despicable, vicious act DEAR EDITOR: I never thought I would write this type of letter, but I also never thought this would happen to me. Many times I had read of the thievery of flowers and arrangements from graves. That always seemed so sad and senseless and such a desecration to the grave and to the family of the deceased loved one. It seems such a despicable and vicious act of someone wanting a flower arrangement. My father died on Dec. 18, 1974 so the flowers arranged and put on his grave were not there only for Christmas but as a memorial to a day our family lost a loved one. There wasn't a lot of monetary expense put into this arrangement, but there was a lot of love and memories as I carefully arranged beautiful red flowers, holly and other Christmas flowers that would look pretty throughout this Christmas season. This was done as an act of love to honor his life from his family who loved him very much. then spent time at my daddy's grave to make sure all was just right and that the arrangement was wedged securely in its urn, and it was. When I learned the flowers were gone I had mixed feelings of sadness and anger. I've never been robbed, but I now know how others have felt when this happened to them. For anyone who has had their cemetery flowers stolen and suffered such thievery I am truly sorry. If you, the thief, are reading this, I truly hope you enjoy my arrangement. I put a lot of time and care into it. I hope you use it every Christmas season. I also hope if and when you suffer the loss of a loved one, this never happens to you.
In the future when I read of cemetery thievery I will have more understanding and compassion. I will remember the feelings of violation. Needless to say, it's really not about the flowers.
