Harry Gilbert Poole III, 71 BLAIRSVILLE--Graveside service for Harry Gilbert Poole III, 71, was held Dec. 14, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with Dr. Philip Meeks officiating. He died Dec. 10, 2007 at his home. Mr. Poole was born on June 16, 1936 and was a fourth generation Atlantan. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Gilbert Poole Jr. and his mother, Grace Eckles Parlato. He graduated from Choate School in Wallingford, Conn., in 1954. He attended the Army Language School and served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a Russian interpreter. He received a degree from Princeton University in romance languages and literatures in 1962 and later received a masters in business administration from Georgia State University. He pursued a career in banking and retired from C&S Sovran, now Bank of America. He was a founding member of Millrock Gun Club where he spent many weekends with his son on the sporting clays course. He moved to Blairsville to enjoy a peaceful retirement fishing on Lake Nottley. A voracious reader with a personal library of over 1,000 books, his true passion was a quest for knowledge. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Youmans Poole of Atlanta; a son, Harry Gilbert Poole IV of Swainsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Adrian Poole Bennett, MD and Luke L. Bennett of Atlanta. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville had charge of arrangements.
