Evie Sikes Flanders, 94 SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Evie Sikes Flanders, 94, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at Peebles Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wilmer Hall and Rev. Wayne Page officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at Emanuel Medical Center. Mrs. Flanders was a member of Mt. Shady Baptist Church and former long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. During WWII, she was a welder in the Savannah shipyard, later worked as a machine operator at Creston Knitting Mill, and was a sales lady at Rebecca's Dress Shop until retirement. After retirement, she traveled extensively with the senior citizens group and enjoyed quilting with the ladies in her Sunday school class. She loved to fish, and was an avid Braves fan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jesse Miller Flanders; and two sons, David Perry Flanders and Robert Paul Flanders. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James C. "Jimmy" and Thomasene Lawson Flanders of Swainsboro; two sisters, Jesse Mae Craven and Maggie Davis of Baxley; eight grandchildren, Doug Flanders of Augusta; Pam F. Merry of Martinez; Renee F. Brown of Augusta; T'Lene F. Carter of Aline; Sherri F. Flanders of Savannah; Carol F. Fronek of Augusta; Emmie F. Gray of Cherryvale, Kansas; and Tommy Perry Flanders of Pembroke; 13 great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Durden Hudson Funeral Directors had charge of the arrangements.
