Blount makes GISA All State Team, scores against Twiggs
David Emanuel Academy placed three players on the All Region First Team. Brandon Blount lead the state in interceptions with five, returning one for a 27-yard touchdown against Young Americans Christian School. Blount also recorded 53 tackles; 39 solo; batted five passes, and caused two fumbles. At quarterback he completed 75 of 162 passes for 762 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. He had 101 carries for 405 yards and 9 touchdowns. Joseph Sparks also made the Region A North First Team. He had 1002 yards on 134 carries, 16 receptions for 116 yards and scored 7 touchdowns. From his linebacker position; Sparks recorded 70 tackles (52 solo), 2 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions returning one for a 47- yard touchdown against Griffin Christian School. From his receiver / strong safety position; Marshal Blount had 19 catches for 214 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also recorded 80 tackles (57 solo). Others making the All Region Honorable Mention team where senior guard Michael Holloway, senior defensive tackle John Dekle (24 tackles, 2 sacks), senior returner / running back John Mark Sweat (440 total yards, 3 touchdowns), junior linebacker Hudson Johnson (87 tackles, 57 solo), junior defensive end Matthew Fordham (57 tackles, 30 solo, 4 catches for 83 yards, 2 touchdowns), and junior special teamer Ashton Lanier (44 tackles, 32 solo). To make the All State team a player must make the All Region First Team. With his classification leading 5 interceptions and 53 tackles, Brandon Blount was voted onto the GISA All State Team. Brandon Blount scored 20 points to lead David Emanuel Academy to a 56-33 win over Twiggs Academy last Friday night in a GISA region 2- A basketball contest played in Stillmore. Gavin Harper tossed in 13 points while Joseph Sparks tossed in 10 as the Eagles improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the region. Ryan Sparks finished with five while Miles Patterson and Hudson Johnson each had three and Hayward Johnson added two. Jarrett Mullis led Twiggs with 14.
