Be a responsible gun owner

DEAR EDITOR:

In most mainstream media today, guns and gun owners are portrayed in a negative way. We hear all the negative aspects of guns but rarely the truth. We never hear about the fun families enjoy learning to shoot and target practicing, we never hear about the numerous times guns are used to protect a family against a crime, nor do we hear about the sport and fellowship that goes along with all types of hunting. I suppose that if people hear over and over how bad guns are they start to believe it. It appears this is where we are now, a lot of our population is afraid of guns, and because of their fear, they want guns off the street, out of our hands.

So from here, as gun owners, what can we do?

We can be the most responsible guns owners we can be. We have to always act appropriately and honorably when we use or carry our gun. Whether you carry a handgun with a Georgia carry permit, or you enter the woods with your deer rifle, we must always make safety a priority while following the laws to the letter. Our goal should be a lifetime of good gun decisions and a perfect safety record. If we can legally own and or carry a gun we should use our right and do so. We should join and help fund the groups like the NRA that fight for our gun rights. Last, but not least, we should teach our kids to enjoy the shooting sports, without their participation our gun and hunting rights could be lost forever.
