Washington killed Sunday morning

Chico R. Washington, 32, of Swainsboro was found dead in the intersection of New and Harris streets in Swainsboro on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4:43 a.m. "He died of apparent gunshot wounds," said Police Chief Johnny Shuman. "Witnesses identified Edgar Thomas Jr., 63, a.k.a. 'Shotgun' of Swainsboro had shot Washington. Officers arrived at Thomas' residence and transported him to Swainsboro Police Department where he gave his statement to officers. He is being held in Emanuel County Jail on murder charges."

Washington was pronounced dead at the scene by EMTs. Chief Shuman said that according to witnesses, the shooting was "the result of an argument around some Black & Mild cigars and an ongoing feud."

Chief Shuman concluded, "Much appreciation and a job well done goes to EMTs Russell Thornton and Barry Thompson; deputy sheriffs Mark Curry and David Moxley; DNR Sgt. Donnie Peebles and DNR Ranger Johnny Barnard; Georgia State Patrol Trooper Matt Moorman; and to Lt. Richard Peacock, Sgt. Joe Cephus, Sgt. Brian Moore, Corporal Curtis Armstrong and Officer Heidi Hall."
