ECI heads to the Dome!
The first quarter started with the Bulldogs kicking off the ball to the Devils. Warren then brought it back to the 49 yard line. The Bulldog defense showed just how strong they were when they held the Devils right where they were; forcing them to do an early punt. After a return by LaCollie Gordon, ECI used Nick Cross to slowly move the ball down the field. ECI was gaining yards, but the Devils would soon stop them, and the ball would be turned over. Both teams seemed to be equally matched as neither could get to far pass the other. The defense for each team should be commended since neither team was able to gain many yards or score for the entire first quarter. Once the second quarter started, the Bulldogs were ready to do something about the score. The ball was in the Devils possession, and after suffering pressure from the Bulldog defense they tried for a long pass to move down the field. La- Collie Gordon was prepared and intercepted the ball at the 40 yard line. With 11:10 left, Michael Robertson got the ball to Washaun Ealey and as the offensive line made an opening for him he took off down the field. It looked no one could touch him as headed towards the end-zone when from nowhere a Devil was able to stop him at the 2 yard line. This time Michael Robertson would do it himself making a dash down the right side, and into the end-zone, 6- 0. The Devils were now coming on stronger than ever, they knew they would have to step it up if they wanted to beat the Bulldogs. Time began to run out as the ball landed in Warren's hands one last time for the half. Warren gained yards fast and with just under 2 minutes left they found themselves at the 4 yard line. Dog pile after dog pile on the Devil quarterback was preventing any more advancement by the Devils. Time was almost out, when the Devils made a break for it. 17 seconds left and they make it, a good kick and the score is 6-7 as the half came to an end. The third began as the Devils kicked off to ECI. The Bulldog guys did a great job bringing the ball down the field, but they just weren't able to hold on to it for long as a turnover would soon occur. A punt by Bulldog Will Hinson would put the ball in the back field,, and the ball would be stopped at the 14 yard line. The Devils would respond by making a long run down the field, across the 50 and on past the 20. Again feeling to much pressure from the Bulldog defense the Warren boys knew they could not get a touchdown so instead they went for the field goal. The 18 yard kick was good and the score was 6- 10. ECI knew they had to do something. Taking advantage of their strong offensive line, Washuan Ealey and Sanquez Lee were able to move the ball constantly down the field. With less than 4 minutes left on the clock, Michael Robertson made a short pass to Nick Cross who powered through the Devil defense for the touchdown. Will Hinson would make a really good kick and the score was 13- 10. After the Devils received the ball, it would not take them long to respond to the ECI touchdown. The next play started and a Devil found an opening in the Bulldog line and he made a long run. Bulldogs were trying to catch but he had to much of a lead and as he crossed the line the score was changed to 13-16. With a good kick, the Devils would now have 17. ECI now had the ball and they were determined that would be the last Devil touchdown. The Dawgs moved the ball down field quickly, closing in on that next touchdown. Time for the quarter ended as Ealey got a first down at the 35 yard line. The fourth started and ECI kept coming on strong. Robertson passed the ball to Ealey who then could not be stopped as he ran a 20 yard touchdown for a score of 19-17. The Devils now had the ball but that would not last long. Being true to their word, the Bulldogs would not allow anymore Devil touchdowns. The Bulldog defense was putting so much pressure on Warren that they could not go anywhere, and were forced to punt. ECI then began moving down the field as quickly as possible. They brought it to the 12 yard line, and from there the ball was handed to Ealey. He powered through, but was stopped mere inches from the endzone. Again, Michael Robertson would run the ball; going up the middle and ECI had yet another touchdown. Going for the two points seemed to be the obvious choice as Dexter Moody caught a pass for a score of 25-17. The game was drawing to an end, and both teams seem to grow more anxious. The ball would exchange hands several times. It landed back in the Devil's hands and it looked as if they might be able to get a touchdown. The Bulldog defense then stepped it up and forced a turnover on downs. With the ball back, the ECI boys did not waste anytime. Michael Robertson passed to Ealey, the offensive line created an opening, and it was all over. Ealey was running with all his might, crossing the 50, then the 20, then touchdown! An 80 yard run that impressed both sides of the field. Will Hinson would put a cap on the game as his kick was good for the extra point, 34-17. Once again, the Bulldogs have come out on top. Their hard work and dedication have certainly shined. Coach Turner and his team are going to continue to practice for ECI's big appearance in the dome. This community can definitely be proud of the Bulldog boys and what they have accomplished. Win or lose the players can proudly walk away from this season with their heads held high.
