Luther Gordon Mitchell, 68 NUNEZ--Funeral for Luther Gordon Mitchell Sr., 68, was held Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Earl Robinson and Rev. Bunny Hudson officiating. Burial was in Liberty Grove Church Cemetery in Johnson County. He died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 in Tignall. Mr. Mitchell was born in Johnson County, was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict, a truck driver, and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Mitchell and Annie Brantley Sheppard. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jean Moore of Swainsboro; four sons, Scott Mitchell of Ohio; Calvin Mitchell and Michael Mitchell of Florida; and Luther Mitchell, Jr. of Swainsboro; three sisters, Martha Mosley and Eula Mae Scott of Statesboro; and Ann Akridge of Stillmore; a brother, Morris Mitchell of Nunez; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Joe Akridge, Jimmy Akridge, Stephen Leger, Jerry Scott, Stephen Hackle and Kenny Robinson. Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors had charge of arrangements.
