Joe Raymond Lincks, 78

LINCKS
SWAINSBORO-- Funeral for Joe Raymond Lincks, age 78, was held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating. Burial was in Twin City Coleman Cemetery. He died Nov. 22, 2007 at Emanuel Medical Center.

Mr. Lincks was born in Laurel County, Ky., and moved to Hamilton, Ohio during his youth. He attended the University of Cincinnati on scholarship with Champion International Paper, Inc. While in Hamilton, he played basketball in a city league with childhood friend, Joe Nuxhall who later became the youngest professional baseball player in history pitching for the Cincinnati Reds at age 15. Mr. Nuxhall preceded his friend in death by seven days. He served as Chairman, Hamilton YMCA and chairman, Champion Credit Union. He was an avid golfer and a five year veteran of the Jackie Gleason Inverarry Classic in Ft. Lauderdale. His golfing partners included Dave Graham, Lee Trevino, and Chi Chi Rodriguez, and Miami Dolphins quarterback Earl Morall. He was rapidly promoted by Champion Papers from mill worker as a teenager to marketing representative. He traveled throughout the United States promoting Champion products. His entire career was in the paper industry having served mainly as area sales manager for various companies in Atlanta, Los Angeles and Miami where he retired with WWF Papers in 1988. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Eustis, Florida Lodge 85; Sunday School Director, First Baptist Church of Ft. Lauderdale; and Finance Chairman, First Baptist Church in Downey, Calif. Mr. Lincks was a member of the First Baptist Church of Swainsboro.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Doris Lincks; three daughters and sonsin law, Carol and Al Jones of Twin City; Melanie and John Walsh of Appling; and Ann and John Biedenharn of Oviedo, Florida; a brother, Don Lincks of Victorville, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Alison Smoyer, Twin City; Brandon Lincks Jones, Waycross; and Valerie Jones, Statesboro; Jill Biedenharn of Gainesville, Fla.; Lee Biedenharn of Oviedo, Fla.; Ben and Shane Walsh of Appling; and seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Trent, and Kristin Smoyer; Shaina Jackson, Reid, Braxton, and Cayden Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Swainsboro First Baptist Church or United Hospice of Swainsboro.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
