Elected officials should obey laws DEAR EDITOR: I am writing in reference to Virginia Woods- Peebles letter in last week's paper. I am pleased someone else besides myself has finally realized that our elected officials do not obey the laws. They ask us to vote for them for they say that they will make things better, try harder and are the person we need to do the right thing to make Emanuel County a better place for all the citizens. Well, let me commend Mrs. Woods-Peebles for coming forward. If the citizens of this county would look around, they will find that we have a very corrupt system in place. I myself have had a personal experience with our sheriff's department which has left me with terrible nightmares and it has almost been 2 years ago. I still suffer terror attacks regularly, and will not leave my fenced-in yard yet. Also, I have a walking stick I must use now. Before the incident, I did not have to take the stick to get around. I also must use a wheelchair, if I have to walk long distances. You may not believe this, but I have 2 boxes of evidence safely tucked away that will prove what I am saying. Waiting for when the time is right, I will show this evidence to anyone that may be interested. This evidence includes pictures, daily notes, tape recordings, doctor's reports, receipts and lots of witnesses that will be glad to tell the truth. In the future, I urge citizens of Emanuel County to get more knowledge of the candidates and OPEN your eyes to what goes on around you. As I have said we have a very, very corrupt system in place now and you are the only way it can be corrected, by being watchdogs, and finding out these corrupt persons (that includes every department in Emanuel County Government) and not letting them have that GOOD OLE BOY NETWORK in place any longer. That kind of network comes from not having term limits for elected officials. PLEASE OPEN YOUR EYES AND EARS to stop these violations of people's trust and rights. To those who want to be elected, obey the laws like everyone else is expected to. You should go out of your way to set an example. ESTHER J. STEWART Cross-Green
