Marie Youngblood Wofford, 54

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Marie Youngblood Wofford, 54, was held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Hodges, S.C. She died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at the Emanuel Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Wofford was born in Columbia, S.C., grew up in Hodges, S.C. and attended school in Hodges and Greenwood, S.C. She was a graduate of University of South Carolina and was director of public relations and personnel services with Emanuel County Board of Education. She was certified in accredited public relations, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Swainsboro, a former member of the church choir and served on the administrative board. She was co-chairman of Relay for Life, a member and former director with the Swainsboro Rotary Club, and past president of the Georgia Schools Public Relations Association and was actively involved in the National Association. She was active with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and was a former member of the Pilot Club, Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce and co-founded the Swainsboro Recycling Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Manley Youngblood, Jr. and Louise Loveless Youngblood.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck Wofford of Swainsboro; two stepdaughters and husbands, Annette Wofford Barnett and Rich Barnett of Glen Burnie, Md.; and Jennifer Wofford Guillen and Marco Guillen of Atlanta; two sisters and a brother-inlaw, Sara Youngblood Vanlerberghe and Gary Vanlerberghe of Clayton; and Marty Youngblood of Hodges, S.C.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Chip and Denise Youngblood and Art Youngblood of Greenwood, S.C.; five grandchildren, Alex Barnett, Matthew Barnett, Robert Barnett, Madeliene Guillen and Christian Guillen; nieces and nephews, Evan and Amber Vanlerberghe, Lee and Christy Youngblood, Mary Beth Vanlerberghe, Drayson Youngblood and Van Youngblood.

Pallbearers were Butch Frye, Harry Martin, Sonny Stephens, Mitchell Fagler, Ken Warnock, Lige Moore, Len Daugherty, R.D. Harter, Ronnie Hopkins, Cedric Porter and Courtney Terwilliger. Honorary escorts were Emanuel County Board of Education Central Office staff, Dr. Betty Brown, Martha Flanders, Roberta Strong, Jack McLeod and Dot Pruitt.
