Superintendent Butch Frye said that Wofford's life could be seen in the many pictures she took of the children in the school system. "The events, the pictures that shaped Marie's life and the loyalty and dedication she showed her friends; her passions, the family she loved so much and the happiness that exuded from her--her pictures have made us far better people for she touched us, she loved us and she showed us how to live and love each day." "Through her work, her photos and PowerPoint presentations, Marie captured the lives of our children throughout the years," said John M. Neighbors, chairman of the BOE. "She will be missed." "Marie and Chuck Wofford are the reason for Relay For Life in Emanuel County being such a huge success," said Deborah Martin, co-chair of Relay for Life. "They were the chairs of the original event and continued in that capacity for six years and then Harry and I became the chairs. I am not sure how to have Relay without Marie, but Harry and I are going to do our very best. This next Relay will be in her memory and honor of her dedication to this event. She was a very special person and will be sorely missed." Martin added, "At Marie's funeral on Saturday morning, her brother, Art Youngblood, spoke. He first said that he knew that the people of Emanuel County loved Marie and that she loved them also. He challenged all citizens of Emanuel County to take up a torch for Marie, whether it be to support the Relay for Life by signing up on a committee, forming a team or participating in some way. He mentioned also how passionate she was about the Make a Wish Foundation, so he encouraged others to do this also and to help and support the public school system in Emanuel County." Frye concluded," Emanuel County and Emanuel County Schools, Swainsboro First United Methodist, American Cancer Society and our local hospital has lost its No. 1 cheerleader--it's No. 1 fan."
