Possible weapon reported at Tech

Swainsboro Technical College Administration was alerted Monday, Nov. 12 that a student was on campus with a weapon.

"It was reported by the college staff to the 911 center in Emanuel County," said Johnny Payne, director of Institutional Advancement, Public Relations, & Marketing. "The Emanuel County Sheriff's Department, Swainsboro Police Department and Georgia State Patrol all responded immediately. The accused student, who was reported to have been seen with a weapon, was taken into custody for an evaluation to be done by local authorities."

A search of the suspect and the vehicle revealed no weapon in the suspect's possession. After no weapon was found, the Chatham County Canine Unit was summoned to the campus to conduct a search for the weapon. "After an extensive search of the campus by the unit, once again no weapon was located," said Payne. "The accused is still in custody and under evaluation. Currently, no charges have been filed."
