Tigers closing in on region title
By AGAN TANKERSLEY

MALCOLM EADY TURNS UPFIELD
Friday night, the Swainsboro Tigers traveled to Screven County to face the Gamecocks. In order for the Tigers to have a shot at the region title, they needed to beat Screven County, and needed Jefferson County to beat Laney. Jefferson County beat Laney 14 to 0. After four quarters of football, the Tigers came in reach of the region title by winning 31 to 7.

The first quarter of the game was a battle between the two teams. Each team made a few "game determining" turnovers, but the score still remained at zero.

Screven was the first to score by completing a 64 yard drive, then ran yards for the touchdown, E.P. was good. The Tigers answered quickly when Rashdad James completed a 17 yard pass to Martez Brown to even the score. Silva's kick was good. The Tigers had many successful drives, but could not capitalize. With 35 seconds left in the game, Coach Williamson called on the field goal unit. Pablo Silva kicked a 35 yard field goal, making the score 10 to 7 at half-time.

The third quarter went a lot like the first, scoreless. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, James completed a 33 yard touchdown pass to Darien Davis, E.P. good. After an interception by the Tiger's defense, "Wreckin Crew," Kawaskie Coleman ran 5 yards for another touchdown. James would be the player to "seal the deal" with a 8 yard quarterback sneak, for another six points, E.P. good. 31 to 7, Tigers, would be the final score.

The Tiger defense stopped Screven's passing game by not allowing any passing yards, and had two inceptions. The Tiger's offense attacked Screven's defense through the air with 169 passing yards.

The Tigers will host Metter for the last game of the regular season. If the Tigers can defeat Metter, then the region championship will go to the Swainsboro Tigers. If the Tigers are the region 3 #1 seed, then they will play the region 1 #4 seed who will most likely be Cook for the first playoff game. Be sure to come support the Tigers this Friday night.
