Playing lottery is recreation, choice DEAR EDITOR: I am responding to Ms. Johnson's letter to the editor last week about the lottery. While I agree with her, she may have missed the fact that the lottery is for recreation. I also feel it's a matter of choice. America is a free country, and as long as we abide by the laws of this country, responsible people should have the opportunity to partake in this recreation. However, I do agree that there are people who have taken money used for the purpose of the family's livelihood and thrown it away by playing the lottery. The participation of this recreation should be in the realm of an extra dollar or two for the sport of it. I do not believe that the people who have lost their cars or who are homeless have visions of winning the lottery. I think these people have a gambling addiction where not matter how much they win, they would gamble more. Which brings me to the point that these people should be responsible adults and seek help. This is the one thing I feel: People don't take responsibility for their actions. Should we outlaw gambling because there are addicts that say they cannot stop? I don't think so. Everything in moderation, if you can afford it, and like to do it. If not, give it up. Get help. MARCI DUNCAN Stillmore
