Nursing Home to be refurbished Emanuel Medical Center CEO Len Daugherty informed the Emanuel County Hospital Authority Board at its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 23 that the hospital nursing home will be undergoing some work to repair the flooring and kitchen and dining room areas. Daugherty said costs of such repairs will be taken under consideration. Daugherty announced at the meeting that the nursing services had asked to do its own billing and a contract was renegotiated. Also announced was the resignation of Dr. Kate O'Leary from the hospital. (However, Dr. O'Leary was re-appointed to the medical staff.) Dr. James Ray recommended the following approvals, re-appointments and resignations. His recommendations were approved. Medical Staff Appointments to Associate Staff Karl Valcourt, M.D. - Consulting- Emergency Department was recommended for appointment to Associate Medical Staff as requested with Emergency Service Privileges. James Tinley, M.D. - Consulting- Emergency Department was recommended for appointment to Associate Medical Staff as requested with Emergency Service Privileges. Earl Taylor, M.D. - Consulting- Emergency Department was recommended for appointment to Associate Medical Staff as requested with Emergency Service Privileges. Anthony Costrini, M.D. - Consulting- Sleep Lab was recommended for appointment to Associate Medical Staff as requested with Privileges for Sleep Lab studies. Courage Atekha, M.D. - Consulting- Nephrology was recommended for appointment to Associate Medical Staff as requested with Nephrology Privileges. Medical Staff Re-appointments to Active Staff Kathleen O'Leary, MDPsychiatry was recommended for re-appointment to Active Medical Staff with no change in Psychiatry privileges as requested. Muhammad Jamal, MD- Family Practice was recommended for re-appointment to Active Medical Staff with no change in Family Practice privileges as requested. Medical Staff Re-appointments to Consulting Staff Ajay Jain, MD- Internal Medicine/Cardiology was recommended for reappointment to Consulting Medical Staff with no change in Internal Medicine/ Cardiology privileges as requested. Christiana Hall, MDNeurology was recommended for re-appointment to Consulting Medical Staff with no change in Neurology privileges as requested. Medical Staff Re-appointment to Allied Health Arthur Stone, CRNA - Anesthesia was recommended for re-appointment for job responsibilities in Anesthesia with no change as requested. Temporary Privileges Andrew Obamwonyi, MD-Emergency Department Resignations Steve Riddick, M.D. - Consulting- Thoracic Surgery Carol Alexander, CSTAllied Health Ginger Hall gave the nurses report and said the nursing staff at the emergency ward was down due to three resignations which left 42 shift vacancies. Subsequently, a new "in-house flex pool" was developed to accommodate the existing staff and a new nurse was hired this week. Sybil Patterson reported that flu vaccines are in and available. Rhonda Durden reported that the month of September saw a net loss of $637,000. Total patient revenue was $901,000 under budget. Durden also reported that "inpatient surgeries were 22 less than what the budget number is," and that outpatient revenue was "under budget by a significant amount." The line of credit was at $1 million. After an executive session to discuss potential litigation, the board reconvened with no action taken.
