'Hogzilla' II killed by locals
By AGAN TANKERSLEY

MARSHALL POWELL, CAMERON WILLIFORD, CLINT ROWLAND, A.J. COURSEY, AARON WILLIFORD, AND BRYON DYE WITH 'HOGZILLA' II
After receiving a phone call early one morning, I was informed that a 891- pound hog was killed in Washington County by some friends. Marshall Powell was mowing the roads on their family plantation when the monster hog came out into the road. Powell attempted to kill the hog, but the animal was too big and too strong.

Later that evening, Powell called Clint Rowland and A.J. Coursey to bring Coursey's hog dogs to hunt down the hog. Once they arrived with the dogs, it took about an hour to find the hog. Once they found the hog and killed it, it took a truck to get the hog out of the woods and a front-end loader to load the hog in the truck.

After hearing about this big hog I started doing my homework. The original Hogzilla was killed in Alapaha on June 17, 2004 by Chris Griffin on Ken Holyoak's farm and hunting reserve. The hog was said to be 1,000 pounds, but when the National Geographic Society researched the hog it was said to actually be 800 pounds. Hogzilla still holds the record in North America for the largest tusk which measured 18 inches. Hogzilla II tusks only measured 5 inches.

Georgia Department of Natural Research does not keep records on wild feral hogs. But, Hogzilla and Hogzilla II are not 100% wild feral hog. DNA testing was performed, revealing that Hogzilla was a hybrid of wild boar and domestic swine. All though Hogzilla II has not been tested, you still will find that he is not "full blooded" feral hog. However, he is still quite large and is anextraordinary animal.
