DEA rolls over Young Americans, 67-6 David Emanuel Academy scored a school record 67 points as they soundly defeated Young Americans Christian 67-6 last Friday night at the Earl O'Neal Sports Complex just outside Conyers. The win improves the Eagles to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the region. Junior Derek Lindsey led the onslaught by scoring three of the Eagles ten touchdowns. The first came on an end around from the YACS 15 yard line on the Eagles first offensive play from scrimmage. With 2:58 left in the first half, Lindsey caught a 21 yard TD pass from Brandon Blount and then returned the second half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, going straight up the middle and speeding past everyone on the field. Joseph Sparks, who finished with a season high 110 yards on eight carries, scored twice for DEA. The first was a 13 yard gallop in the first quarter and the other was a 12 yard scamper with 49 seconds left before the half. Other scores in the first half included a 25 yard interception return by Brandon Blount and a six yard blast by Ashton Lanier for his first touchdown of the season as the visiting Eagles took a 40-0 lead into intermission. Following the second half kickoff return by Lindsey, DEA increased the lead to 47-0 as they went 62 yards in seven plays. Brandon Blount, who completed eight of nine passes for 107 yards and two TDs in the game, connected on three passes in the set including two to Marshall Blount. The third completion went to tight end Matthew Fordham down the middle for a 17 yard scoring play. DEA put on the finishing touches in the fourth quarter as Dylan Holloway scored on a four yard run on the first play of the final stanza. Marshall Blount returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown with 7:57 showing to conclude the scoring. Young Americans Christian, (0-7, 0-5), prevented the shutout by scoring on a 42 yard run at the 7:44 mark of the third quarter. A final attempt to put points on the board by the home team ended with Miles Patterson's leaping interception late in the fourth quarter. DEA will now look forward to three straight home games after having played three consecutive Fridays away from Stillmore. First up for DEA is Nathanael Greene Academy who is coming off a 68- 14 pounding at the hands of defending state champion Thomas Jefferson. The Patriots are 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the region. Their wins were over John Hancock (22-8), Griffin Christian (46-6) and The Heritage School (25-14), and the other losses were to Piedmont (23-7), Flint River (37-6), and Gatewood (13-6). Kickoff is set for 7:30 with playoff hopes riding on the outcome for both teams.
