Durden Bank, Zaxby's highlighted by Work-Based Learning Program

JAMIKA MOBLEY, MR. JAMIE WILBUR, ZAXBY'S GENERAL MANAGER, AND JESSICA RICKS
The Work-Based Learning Program in Emanuel County highlights Durden Banking Company, Swainsboro and Twin City, and Zaxby's of Metter. Durden Banking Company is a long-time partner and friend of the work-based learning programs in Emanuel County and is employing three students this year. Zaxby's of Metter is a new partner to work-based learning and is employing three students.

Paris Pitts and Matt Donaldson, second year Youth Apprenticeship students, are seniors at Emanuel County Institute and are employed at Durden Banking in Twin City. Paris plans to attend East Georgia College to obtain an Associate's Degree and then transfer to the University of Georgia. Her final goal is to be a gynecologist. Matt Donaldson plans to attend East Georgia and then transfer to either Georgia Southern University or the University of Georgia where he plans to pursue a degree in Business Administration and then work in the finance field.

Katie Hurst, also a second year Youth Apprenticeship student, is a senior at Swainsboro High School and is employed at the Swainsboro Branch. After graduation she plans to attend Georgia Southern University and major in accounting. Katie believes that working with Durden Banking Company has opened her eyes to the world of business and wants to continue in the financial field.

Mr. G. W. Johnson, Jr., President of Durden Banking Company stated, "We have been very fortunate at Durden Banking Company to be able to utilize students enrolled in the Youth Apprenticeship Program in the Emanuel County Schools. We have found the students to be very motivated, goal oriented, and focused on doing their best in regard to their employment with the bank. We look forward to continuing our partnership with YAP in the years to come."

Zaxby's of Metter is now employing three students from Emanuel County. Mr. Jamie Wilber, General Manager, stated, "Merging with workbased learning students from Emanuel County has been an asset to Zaxby's and students are gaining valuable work experience that can carry them into any career they wish to pursue." Students working at Zaxby's are Jamika Mobley and Jessica Ricks.

Jamika Mobley is a senior at Swainsboro High School and a first year Youth Apprenticeship student. She believes that working with the public and learning to follow orders will help her in her chosen career in the Air Force. Jamika will attend basic training next September.

Jessica Ricks is a first year Career and Technical Instructional student and a senior at Swainsboro High School. She plans to attend Ogeechee Technical College and pursue a career in Culinary Arts. She loves working at Zaxby's and believes that the experience is teaching leadership skills and the value of being a team member.
