Emanuel Rangers UDC receives 22 awards

Emanuel Rangers Chapter #2318 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy received 22 awards in recognition of achievements in the memorial, historical, benevolent, educational, and patriotic objectives of the organization during the 112th Georgia Division Convention. Some of the awards included Outstanding Community Involvement in Civic Activities, Best Report on Patriotic Activities, Best Georgia Day and Flags in Schools Report, and Most Publicity. The convention was held from Sept. 27-29 in Augusta.

Mrs. Joyce L. Fennell (historian), Mrs. Judy W. Womack (registrar), Mrs. Jane G. Durden (vice president), and Mrs. Elaine C. Thomas (president) represented their chapter at the convention. Guests accompanying the Emanuel Rangers members included Rev. Emory Fennell, Dr. Fred Womack, and Mr. Robert Thomas. The Executive Board meeting of Sept. 27 featured Mrs. Durden and two other Georgia UDC members who performed a skit containing information concerning the history of the UDC Memorial Building in Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Durden is also Georgia Division Parliamentarian and Bylaws Committee Chairman.

The highlight of Historical Evening on Sept. 28 was the presentation of a World War II Cross of Military Service to Emanuel County Veteran Cecil Judson Joiner. Sixteen friends from Emanuel County attended this special ceremony honoring Mr. Joiner. Two other Georgia Veterans received Military Service Awards during the evening and the Veterans were honored with a reception after the Historical Evening concluded.

On Sept. 29 at the Education Luncheon honoring Real Daughters, Mrs. Womack Georgia Division Essays in Schools Chairman, presented awards to the six students who won the essay contests. Mrs. Womack also shared her keyboard talents as pianist during Presidents' Evening on Sept. 29. Mrs. Fennell served as a timekeeper during all the reports given by Division Officers, Committee Chairpersons, and Chapter Presidents. At Presidents' Evening, Mrs. Thomas gave a report on the Emanuel Rangers UDC Chapter's activities.

Following the conclusion of Presidents' evening the Third District UDC chapters hosted a reception honoring Division Officers and Mrs. Janice Langford, President General of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Langford attended all the events of the 112th Georgia Division UDC Convention.
