Afromotive to perform at Arts Emanuel

AFROMOTIVE
This Saturday's Art Stroll concert comes to Swainsboro from Asheville, NC. Afromotive is a thundering nine-piece ensemble fueled by a powerful three-piece horn section and an unstoppable rhythm section. The Afromotive's musical dance excursions are steered by bandleader Kevin Meyame. The Afromotive has been described as "escorting Afrobeat music into the modern age and taking the dance floor with them."

Originally from Cote D'Ivoire, West Africa, Kevin has performed throughout West Africa and France with drum and dance troupe Tanably. He moved to Asheville, N.C. in 2004 to perform as lead dancer with Ballet Warraba, and as fate would have it, founded the musical collaboration that is the Afromotive. Singing in French, English, and his native language of Baoule, as well as providing polyrhythms on djembe, Kevin adds an authentically African flavor to their nu-afrobeat sound. The combination of Kevin's cultural and musical background and the jazz and classically trained musicians of the Afromotive has created a synthesized sound that crosses musical and ethnic boundaries. Afromotive will be performing on the Boneyard on October 13th during the Art Stroll. The Art Stroll lasts from 5-8 p.m. with 6 art receptions in downtown Swainsboro. The event includes an artist's talk at Gallery RFD at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., Afromotive will take the stage for a 90-minute set.

This performance is brought to you in part by the Downtown Commission for Arts and Commerce (DCAC). The DCAC is a group of organizations that support culture and commerce for downtown Swainsboro through concerts, dance, and theatre performances. The DCAC includes Daniel's Chevrolet, The Forest-Blade, Gallery RFD, the Emanuel Arts Council, the GREDC at EGC, The Chamber of Commerce, Nordson Corps, Millcreek, and Radio Jones.
