How healthy are you? Is your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose within the normal limits? What about your vision, hearing and body mass index? Find out answers to questions like these by attending the Healthy U health fair Thursday, Oct. 18. Free health screens will be offered to the public from 10 a.m. until 5:30 pm (with the exception of cholesterol, glucose and bone density screenings offered from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.) at East Georgia College, Richard L. Brown room of Student Services Complex.

According to Beth Hudson, director of community relations at Emanuel Medical Center, screenings offered during the event will include height, weight, blood pressure, hemoglobin, anxiety/depression, vision, hearing and body fat/body mass index. Cholesterol/ glucose and bone density screens will be offered from 10 am until 4 pm only. Health professionals will be on hand to evaluate participants' results. The public is reminded these screenings do not take the place of regular exams and determine if further evaluation is needed. No screening will require fasting or special preparation.

Exhibits relating to health, wellness and prevention

will also be displayed. We are emphasizing wellness, prevention and a healthy life style for our community," said Mrs. Hudson. "The more information an individual has the better choices one can make about their health." A wealth of information, hand-outs and give-always will be available.

Individuals will have an opportunity to give blood at the blood mobile located on campus and view a 'Healthy U' poster contest. The Swainsboro Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and Air Med helicopter will be on site as well.

The community health fair is sponsored by East Georgia College, Emanuel Medical Center, and Swainsboro Technical College. Funding is provided by Mill Creek Foundation. For more information please contact Johnny Payne, 289-2218; Walt Mason, 289-2091 or Beth Hudson, 289-1356.
