Training in fire search and rescue

PEACE HOMESCHOOLERS LEARN ABOUT FIREFIGHTING
Weston C. Thompson, Jonathan Stevens and Cody Usry, members of PEACE Homeschool Fellowship Group enjoyed a day of informal training at the Twin City Fire Department. Instructed by Firefighter Landon Johnson, they experienced a day that challenged their mental and physical endurance .

In full gear and blindfolded, they trained in search and rescue simulations and as disoriented firefighters. They also participated in victim extraction simulations. They learned the importance of teamwork and mental focus. They were also instructed how to "quick dress" and about the SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). They were familiarized with the fire truck, equipment, pump and other vital firefighting equipment.

They also learned about the care and maintenance of the equipment. Firefighter Landon Johnson also showed them a real on-the-seen video about firefighting. Johnson commended Weston, Jonathan and Cody for their spirited and impressive performances and looks forward to future training.
