BOE accepts gymnasium bid

Emanuel County Board of Education approved the low bid of $5,215,000 from Lavender & Associates, Inc. for construction of Swainsboro High School's gymnasium. (The board meeting was held Oct. 1 instead of next Monday due to members' attendance at training next week.) Other bids were from Dabbs-Williams General Contractors, $5,740,000; Pope Construction, $5,495,000; and T.Q. Construction, $5,845,000.

Also approved at the meeting were the following:

Fund raiser requests from Swainsboro High School and Swainsboro Elementary School.

Transfer

Susan Hopkins, from special education teacher at SHS to special education paraprofessional for the system.

Renewals

Sally Walton, teacher half-time, Alternative School; and Julia Rountree, speech pathologist half-time, system.

Recognitions

David Porter, SHS, second place honors at National Beta Club Public Speaking Competition.

Kelsey Moore, SHS, first place honors at National FBLA Public Speaking I Competition; and being named 2007- 2008 Emanuel County nominee to the U.S. Senate Youth Program.

Miriam Durden, SHS, first place honors at National FBLA Word Processing I Competition.

Rachel McNeely, Elliott Woods and Jade Newsome, SHS, third place honors in National FBLA Business Ethics Competition.

Hanish Chauhan and Daniel Porter, SHS, top ten honors in National FBLA Management Decision Making Competition.

Dr. Karen Ross, Adrian School of Performing Arts, for being named 2007 Georgia High Performance Principal.

ASPA, Swainsboro Middle School, Twin City Elementary School and Swainsboro Primary School, for being named 207 Georgia Title I Distinguished School.
