Electrical fire reported at EMC At the Hospital Authority meeting Sept. 25, Emanuel Medical Center CEO Len Daugherty informed board members about an electrical fire at the hospital on Friday, Sept. 21. According to Daugherty, a fire broke out in one of the mechanical rooms at the hospital. Thirteen employees were sent home after inhaling smoke and three were reportedly ill. Daugherty said the circuits that were built to prevent such occurrences did not function. "We have to figure out why the system specifically designed for this did not work," he said. Smoke had circulated in the building. However, the fire did not affect the rest of the facility. In the financial report, Rhonda Durden informed the board that the month of August was "strong." Collections were reported at $2.4 million and excess revenue was reported at $311,000. The line of credit remains at $1 million.
