On Saturday August 18, a tournament record 104 golfers braved the near 100 degree heat to play in the 11th Annual Kevin Hutcheson Memorial Golf Tournament. Every August since 1997 the Swainsboro Jaycees have hosted the tournament at the Swainsboro Golf & Country Club in order to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation in memory of former Swainsboro Jaycee Kevin Hutcheson. The net proceeds from this year's tournament totaled $5,465.94, all of which was donated to the Epilepsy Foundation.

During the past eleven years the Swainsboro Jaycees have donated nearly $50,000 to the Epilepsy Foundation. Ms. Sinda Stubblefield, representing the Northeast Georgia Epilepsy Foundation, was on hand to receive the contribution which will be exclusively used for patient services and sending children with Epilepsy and seizure disorders to camp.

This year 26 four man teams participated in the best ball tournament. After the round of golf and lunch, the golfers were presented door prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners in each of the two flights.

The team of Chase Hutcheson, Chad Hutcheson, Tina Hutcheson, and Todd Hutcheson won the Championship Flight with a fourteen under par score of 59 on the par 73 course. The team posted five pars, twelve birdies, and an eagle on hole 14.

Finishing in second place in the Championship Flight was the team of Jason Farmer, Joey Newsome, Brandon Paige, and Shane Sasser. Third place in the Championship Flight went to the team of John Allen Bailey, Cleve Edenfield, Tim Hendley, and Ken Warnock. The team of David Brinson, Byron Fountain, Stacy Hutcheson, and Jimmy Simms won the Second Flight.

Prizes were also presented to the golfer with the longest drive on hole number two and for the closest to the pin on hole number three. John Allen Bailey won the prize for closest to the pin and Jason Farmer won the prize for the longest drive for his drive in excess of 320 yards.

Tournament chairman Hugh Hendrix stated, "Despite the large number of golfers, play flowed very smoothly. Every one really seemed to enjoy the day and most importantly we were able to make our largest contribution to the Epilepsy Foundation since the inception of the tournament."

Newly crowned Miss Emanuel County Cassie Brantley and Miss Southeast Georgia Marsha Moore were on hand to assist the Jaycees with the tournament and awarding the prizes.
