Gallery RFD hosts new show

ROBYN FEELY 'S 'FRIDA IN FLOWERS'
Of the exhibitions that Gallery RFD has hosted, "Plagiarism and Appropriation" has received the most comments and criticism. This will be one of the featured shows during the Art Stroll on Saturday, Sept. 8. The event will be from 5-8 p.m. with an artists' talk at 7pm at Gallery RFD located at 106 North Green Street.

"Part of Gallery RFD's mission is to explore complex, challenging, and relevant subject matter to our artists and our community," said Anthony Faris, co-director of Gallery RD. "Because the history of art is full of borrowed and revised ideas, RFD thought this topic was both compelling and relevant. Society discourages, under penalty of law, borrowing or stealing of intellectual property but many of our most acclaimed artists including Picasso, Warhol, and DuChamp have appropriated objects, people, compositions, and whole cultures into their art work. This exhibition explores the boundaries of art, expression, and intellectual property."

Exhibitions at Emanuel Arts Council, Jack's Java Cove and Brantley's Billiards will be on display that evening as well. There will be live music at the Boneyard at 8 p.m. and is sponsored by the Downtown Commission for Arts and Commerce. These events are free and open to the public.
