Business owner beaten, robbed

BAILEY
At around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call at 128A Veal Street, Swainsboro, the home of Maheshkumar Patel, owner of the Swainsboro Food Mart on North Main Street.

Patel stated that two black males wearing black hoods attacked him as he was getting out of his vehicle at his residence. The suspects demanded money and pistol-whipped Patel, who required emergency medical attention at Emanuel Medical Center. He was then transported to MCG in Augusta. (He was treated and released.)

The victim described one suspect as being very skinny. Victim believed suspects to be wearing light shirts and dark shorts. Two black males were seen getting into a vehicle on Longview Road by deputies. The vehicle traveled north on Longview that was stopped by the deputies was occupied by four adults and a child. The two male occupants of the vehicle matched the description of the suspects involved in the robbery. One of the subjects was immediately arrested and second escaped and fled on foot. He was caught on Thursday, Aug. 30 by Sheriff's investigators.

KIRKLAND
Initially arrested and charged was Ricky Ricardo Bailey, 22, of Swainsboro; aggravated assault, armed robbery and parole violation. Subsequently arrested and charged after fleeing from deputies was David Leon Kirkland, 31, of Swainsboro; aggravated assault, armed robbery, parole violation and obstruction of an officer.

Both suspects are currently being held in the Emanuel County Jail without bond.
