DEA to host Bulloch on Thursday The 2007 football season for David Emanuel Academy will kickoff this Thursday night when the Eagles host rival Bulloch Academy. Kickoff in the non-region contest is set for 7:30 in Stillmore. DEA is led this season by Coach James Ferry who takes over after 14 years as an assistant coach with 12 of those years spent in Metter. Ferry inherited a team that was 5-6 a year ago and missed the Georgia Independent School Association playoffs. The Eagles lost nearly half of last year's team to graduation as nine of the 21 players were seniors. DEAdoes return some key players, however, and they will be counted on heavily this season. The list of returnees is highlighted by quarterback Brandon Blount, entering his third year as a starter. The versatile Joseph Sparks will return to play running back and John Mark Sweat will move to running back from wide receiver. John Dekle and Hudson Johnson return to the offensive line and Joseph Powell will lineup at wide receiver. Newcomers to the lineup include Metter transfer Matthew Fordham at tight end, ECI transfer Chad Ellison at guard, and Camden County transfer Marshall Blount at wide receiver. Darin Coursey will fill one of the guard spots and freshman Houston Harris will start at tackle. Both Blounts, Sparks, Sweat, Powell, Ellison, Fordham and Hudson Johnson will play defense as well as DEA doesn't have the luxury of two platooning with a roster of just 19 players. Ashton Lanier, Dylan Holloway and Hayward Johnson will also start on defense. Others that should see action this Friday include junior Alex Roberson, sophomore Miles Patterson, and freshmen Luis Quinones and Ridge Holland. The Gators were 6-5 a year ago including a solid victory over DEA in the 2006 season opener in Statesboro. Coach Clint Morgan's top players include quarterback Jordan Walker, who accounted for 20 touchdowns as junior, wide receiver Ethan Lovett, lineman Ben Newton and defensive end Drew Cheshire.
