Council passes 2008 budget
      At a special called meeting Aug. 20, Swainsboro city council approved the 2008 budget. Total of budget was projected at $6,373,221.45 and a contingency of $3,778.30. Total estimated revenue was $6,376,999.75. Budget for 2007 was $6,148,290.36.

Extension staff receive awards at Rock Eagle
      Connie Page, Emanuel County Extension Agent, and Evelyn Patrick, County Extension 4-H program assistant were recognized during the Annual Epsilon Sigma Phi Awards Luncheon. The event was held Friday, Aug. 24, at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center.

Bad weather
     Swainsboro experienced some bad weather on Saturday, Aug. 25 in the late afternoon. Gusty wind and heavy rain caused this tree to fall over Modoc Road. Some places received up to three inches of rain. Frequent lightning and thunder were also seen and heard.
