EGC Bobcats host USA wrestler

WRESTLER B.J. ADAMS WITH REFEREE
B.J. Adams, a member of the United States Sombo Wrestling team, visited East Georgia College on August 10 and 11. He worked out with EGC Bobcat wrestlers Chris Harford and Tyvone Rushin in preparation for international competition to be held in Antalya, Turkey, on September 7-9. Adams competes in the 74 kilogram weight class, which is 163 pounds. He also hopes to compete in World Cup competition in Nice, France, in November. When he is not wrestling, Adams serves as associate director of admissions at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sombo is a style of martial arts that originated in Russia. Like jujitsu, it involves lots of throws and exposing an opponent's back to the mat. Samba wrestlers wear a heavy, sleeved jacket with a belt. Grasping the clothing is allowed during matches, which last five minutes.

Because traveling to represent the United States in sombo is expensive, Adams is looking for additional sponsors. All entry fees and travel expenses must be paid for by the athletes themselves. If you would like to help Adams wrestle in Anatolia or Nice, please call him at 386-589-8199 or email him at adamsr@erau.edu , or send your donation directly to BJ Adams, 1316 Paradise Lane, Daytona Beach, FL32119.
