Beware of high gas prices

DEAR EDITOR:

Gas, whether propane or gasoline, is ridiculously high. Most price conscious people shop around for the best deal, me included. I decided to change from my current propane provider, Ferrellgas, because I found a better deal elsewhere.

I called their Augusta office and arranged for pickup at their convenience. The Ferrellgas driver called me when they were in my area and picked up the gas tank I was using. It took the driver about 15 minutes to load the tank and be gone. Since there was propane left in the tank--liquid gold- -I inquired twice in the next month about when I would receive my refund.

Last week I received a bill for $79. This was a charge for picking up their tank from my property, which I believe is an exorbitant charge. Not once in the four conversations that I had with Ferrellgas did any representative mention that there was a pick-up charge. Ferrellgas indicated that I had been informed of this charge in a mass mailing in 2005, "but I just probably threw it out" stated the Ferrellgas representative out of Augusta. Their website indicates a pick up charge by "hourly rate." Although I have tried to discuss this pick-up charge with a Ferrellgas employee and her supervisor, Ferrellgas is going to mail me my liquid gold refund check less $79. I will not be given the opportunity to pay their billthey just take what they feel is owed to them. Obviously, customer service is not a high priority as I cannot get anyone from the district office to return my calls.

So consumers, beware of "charges" that are unmentioned. If this letter results in someone making an informed decision, then my $79 was well spent. LISA PEEBLES Midville
