Work-based learning highlights Williams Well and Pump
The cooperative portion of the work-based learning program offers students hands-on workplace experience that provides them with opportunities to learn work-related skills and abilities they could not otherwise acquire in a classroom. The Youth Apprenticeship Program offers the same experience but also links secondary and post-secondary education to the student's career plan. Dual enrollment with a college or technical college is stressed while in high school along with continued technical skill development and education after high school. The first business highlight for the 2007-2008 school year is Darrell Williams Well and Pump Service. Meagan Williams, second year cooperative education student, works for this family owned and operated business. Meagan is a senior at Swainsboro High School and an ACCEL student at East Georgia College. She later will transfer to Georgia Southern University and major in either Early Childhood Education or Middle Grades Education. She also plans to pursue graduate studies. Mr. Williams stated, "Having Meagan work for me is a pleasure. She exhibits strong work ethic and enthusiasm about her job. Cooperative education is a great program because it allows students to gain work experience and essential skills while still in high school."
